Question
The example splash shield is shown to be in one plane. Is it permissible for the splash shield to have multiple planes to improve packaging?
Answer
The rule does not specify the number of planes. The diagram is an example only. Teams are free to construct a splash shield from the materials specified such that the splash shield "prevents fuel from being directly poured on the engine or exhaust ...". If teams would like to accomplish this with multiple planes, they are free to do so. Splash shields allowing fuel to pool or be retained will not pass technical inspection.
