2020 Virtual Baja SAE Updates

Event Dates/Operations:

The 2020 Baja SAE Virtual event will take place in two parts:

1. Static Presentations – scheduled out and hosted on a web-based tool such as WebEx or Zoom in the weeks leading up to the Virtual Event Day. The presentations will take place on a separate day from the rest of the larger virtual event.

2. Virtual Event Day – the event day will consist of the career fair, sponsor skillshops, expert chats and more. We are also planning to work gamification into this event for students to compete against each other for prizes. The date is still TBD at this time based on our continued exploration on finding the right platform. We are currently looking at end of June/early July.

Static Presentations Update:

Teams will only have to present once for each static event (cost, design and sales) regardless of how many competitions they are registered for. Presentations will be judged by high quality industry judges from across the United States. Each presentation will be scored once and then the score will be stacked up against the other teams from each competition in which they are registered for. Teams will only be competing in each event they had registered. These presentations will take place on a virtual platform (most likely WebEx). We will share a schedule of the static presentation times on the newsfeed www.bajasae.net/go/news once they are finalized.

Event Descriptions:

  1. Technical Inspection: Our lead inspectors are working on providing a technical seminar during the virtual event to help teams be more prepared for tech inspection onsite in the future. Technical Inspection is also looking at utilizing the tech quiz still for 2020 despite there being no physical technical inspection. We will be using the tech quiz for bragging rights, training for 2021, and to potentially give away prizes for top finishing quizzes.

  2. Cost Event: The cost captain and the Baja SAE rules committee are still working on the logistics of this event and will communicate more soon. In the meantime, teams should make sure to submit their cost report in order to take part in the virtual event. Due to hardcoding in the website teams who have already submitted their report cannot revise or resubmit, but the late submission deadline is being extended to teams who have not submitted yet. The updated deadline will be communicated on www.bajasae.net/go/news

  3. Design Event: Polaris and the Baja SAE rules committee are still working on the logistics of this event and will communicate more soon. The submission deadlines will be updated based on the new design criteria. The new deadlines will be communicated on www.bajasae.net/go/news once they are established.

  4. Sales Presentation: The sales team and the Baja SAE rules committee are still working on the logistics of this event and will communicate more soon. In the meantime, teams should continue to plan to present to the current 2020 presentation concept. Updates will be communicated on www.bajasae.net/go/news.

We will continue to update students on a weekly basis every Tuesday. Thank you for your continued support. Stay healthy everyone!
